Using 3DPrinterOS with the NCSSM FabLab 3D Printers
- Akshat Kumar '21
We are happy to announce that all 3d printed waste material and spools are now 100% recycled!! The FabLab now purchases and sends our scraps to TerraCycle via their Zero Waste Box program. Participation in this program was enabled by the Filabot/TerraCycle Partnership.
Weapons Policy
Printing weapons on NCSSM 3D Printers is not allowed. The term "weapon" is broadly defined here, so even though an object may not be capable of harming someone, if it looks like a weapon or contains weapon technology, you can't print it. All users 3D printing weapons will immediately be reported to Campus Safety.

FAQ
What model 3D printers does NCSSM have?
We mostly have Prusa i3 MK3's, Ultimaker 2(+)'s, Ultimaker S3's and a Dremmel 3D45
Do I need training or certification to 3D Print?
No training or certification necessary, we just ask that you watch the Using 3DPrinterOS with the NCSSM FabLab Printers tutorial.
Where is my print?
When your print finishes, check the black bookcase outside of the FabLab door (Watts ground floor). We will try to keep up with getting prints out the door as soon as possible.
Is it free?
Everyone starts with a $5.00 balance (FREE!) to get started with 3D printing. Each print's cost is calculated in the Slicer before you send your print to a printer. You can print anything (with discretion) with this balance, personal or school related.
Why did my print fail?
Prints can fail from a number of hardware failures as well as design failures. If the 3D printer you are using has a mechanical failure, our technicians will cancel and restart or queue your print to another printer. If there is nothing mechanically wrong with the printer and your print fails, chances are it's one of your Slicer settings. Double check you have selected the right type of printer and filament. Also, you will need to determine if you need to add support or platform adhesion in your Slicer settings.
My print failed, did I get charged for it?
In the case of Failed or Cancelled prints, the money is automatically put back into your account.
What kind of 3D Printing does the NCSSM FabLab offer?
We currently only offer FDM printing.
I watched the tutorial and still can't figure out how to print, how can I get some help?
Yes! You can get help over Zoom with one of our TA's, just email fablab@ncssm.edu to make an appointment today!
